Chesil Street

A very narrow plot, in a conservation area, with challenging access on a sloping site.

The house, located on the River Itchen was not benefitting from the stunning views of the river and surrounding area.

JWArchitecture gained planning approval for a contemporary rear extension in the conservation area and in close proximity to the SSSI of the Itchen River, with views over Wolvesey Castle and Winchester Cathedral.

An asymmetric building form and use of modern materials, including black zinc and slim profiled glazing system, offer a uniquely interesting addition to a red brick Victorian terrace.

The long narrow ground floor comprises snug, utility, WC, an open plan kitchen, dining and living spaces. Large rooflights bring natural light into the kitchen and dining spaces while the large area of glazing in the rear elevation offer light and views over the garden and River Itchen.
